James Turner (Jim) is the President and CEO of Indiana Fiber Network, LLC (IFN). Jim has extensive experience leading companies that provide critical infrastructure services to the public. Previously, Jim served as president of the regulated utility business at Duke Energy Corporation (NYSE: DUK), currently the nation’s largest electric utility. While at Duke, Jim had overall responsibility for utility operations spanning five states and millions of electric customers.
Before that, Jim was president of Cinergy Corp. (formerly NYSE:CIN). Jim helped lead the successful merger and integration of Cinergy into Duke Energy in 2006. Jim was an integral part of the negotiations leading to that merger and also helped lead the merged company’s integration process – including the development of the new business model, design of the organizational structure, identification of key personnel for leadership positions, and identification of synergies and creation of an execution plan to achieve them. Jim also supervised the complex regulatory approval process that was completed well ahead of investor expectations.
Jim also served as lead independent director of Pike Corporation (formerly NYSE: PIKE), one of the nation’s leading energy services and infrastructure businesses. Jim led a committee of Pike’s independent directors in the evaluation and execution of a go-private opportunity that produced a 51% premium to Pike’s shareholders when it was successfully consummated at the end of 2014.
Immediately before joining IFN, Jim was the chief operating officer of Bingham Greenebaum Doll LLP, a 200-attorney business law firm with principal offices in Indianapolis and Louisville.
At IFN, Jim is working on sharpening operational execution across the business to improve efficiency, enhance owner value, and advance customer satisfaction. Jim is also working to refine IFN’s business model to ensure the company has the right culture, strategic processes, and operating tools to thrive in an increasingly competitive space.
Jim embraces the community and civic leadership, having served in leadership roles on numerous civic and non-profit organizations. He received his law degree cum laude from the Indiana University School of Law in 1984 following completion of his Bachelor’s Degree from Ball State University in 1981. Jim also completed the Advanced Management Program at Harvard Business School in 2001.
Jim and his wife, Leah, were married in 1981 and have been together as a couple since the 8th grade. Their three children, Selena (33), Shannon (31) and Josh (25) currently reside in Brooklyn, NY, Chicago, IL, and Brooklyn, NY, respectively.
